Another news flash!

After breastfeeding for 2 years, 8 months and 3 weeks Carien is now finally weaned.

I always thought that babies should be breastfed and that they should wean at 1 year or soon thereafter.  It worked for Boeta, who cast me aside with no ado when he was 10 months old.

With Carien is was never going to be that easy.  She refused any bottle from birth – when I went back to work when she was 4 months old she used to fast right through the day and wait for me to come home to have breakfast, lunch and supper in quick succession.  When Woutertjie was diagnosed I was busy trying to get her off the boob but she wasn’t interested.  I decided to leave her be since breastfeeding was her comfort thing after the long days that I spent away from her in hospital.

Today is the 5th day that she hasn’t had any “baba melkies” (little baby milk).  Two things to note.  Carien doesn’t feel slighted at all being called a baby – she looooves being a baby.  And secondly, for some reason she calls everything the dimunitive form of its name.  Daddy goes to his “werkies” (little work).  Mommy makes “kossies” (little food).  And she is my little baby.  Who is almost 3 years old.
